CONTEMPORARY BROOCHES WITH A HISTORICAL TWIST (March 2019)
Probably my favourite project, these were designed to be sold at events similar to The Great Northern Contemporary Craft fair. Each brooch has its own individual personality, but is clearly influenced by either the Art Deco or Memphis eras. I took shapes, textures and patterns from each era, and re-imagined them into contemporary, modern pieces, in-keeping with my graphic style. The materials I chose to use really helped to drive the project - the pewter was super responsive to the pattern I textured it with, and the colours of the Formica really brought the aesthetic together for each design era. The CAM element provided me with perfectly cut patterns to texture, and pieces to include, so this worked in my favour in construction.
